Statement of Innovation

"Cranial Collapse" (above) has been developed by machine sewing skulls on tissue paper that has been placed  onto sheer curtain fabric.  This work will be hanging to the floor, attached by a bar high up near the ceiling of the exhibition area. The skulls, when viewed through the hanging fabric, create an ethereal atmosphere. A little bit creepy and funny at the same time.

"Hankie Head " An assemblage using Skulls made from old used handkerchiefs, placed on the wall to produce a large Skull in the negative space created by the hankie skulls surrounding it. This should cause some mystery and intrigue. In the previous lives of these hankies, they would have been close to skull bone when they were used to "blow" noses, it seems right and fitting that they should be recycled to develop a large skull work of art, a "fitting end" to hard working lives?

"Face Off " The knitted skulls present several layers of messages.Skulls aren't meant to be warm and fluffy, nor are they tactile as these woollen skulls are. The "Face Off" position and the title of the work conjure up all sorts of connotations; their faces are off, these particular skulls have never had nor ever will have faces.
As soon as they were placed into the "Face Off" position they seemed very happy and have been laughing ever since.
